Review |
So there have been a lot of good games lately, which is surprising considering TADRS usual track record. So I figured I'd go searching through the unreviewed list for a bad or even mediocre game to stand up next to the recent uploads to have some contrast. It's difficult to see the difference between a good game and a bad one without the occasional bad one there to remind you how much better the other games are.
So I saw this one, "The Green Plain, Non-stop action."
Now any file that needs to self-advertise usually boasts medocrity with a dash of newbieness, the perfect recepie for an eyesore brag game. So far I was in luck.
Also included in the zip was a file that said this: “the game isnt anything amazing, since lately, there hasn't been any big games between players of about the same level, i found it cool to send this one. it's just good and messy action non stop.”
Now this was uploaded before Emac bricked on TADRS so the first line was true. When a game file includes these kind of words in a text file I usually try to translate it. This one says: “This is not a brag-game, have mercy please." A claim to sub-par ability means that the uploader acknowledges that the game may not be superior and his take on it could be obscured by his own performance of the game. So by saying that it isn't amazing, he immunizes himself from a reviewer saying it was no good, because then the reviewer would simply be redundant.
So I defeintely felt like I was in luck. Melfice vs Behemot should be a good match-up, but Considering Melfice's less that spectacular upload record I figured I'd be in for something that wasn't all amusing.
Boy was I dissapointed. In a good way, really. Both players are instantly agressive, attacking at all costs with no regard for losses. The outcome is uncertain and the game was even. So instead of finding myself a game to pan as inadequate, you get yet another good game of Total Annihilation.
Both Totya and Melfice look improved in this game. But Melfice is showing that he is not only improved in game, but that he has improved overall at this whole Total Annihilation on the internet with other people thing. |
