History lesson featuring Abe the Old:
When I started playing GoW (you were still in diapers) the strategy in a 2v2 was well known. You built sea, it was a water map duh! Then, with Core Contingency, came the Hover and pelican, and Kbot was the flavour of the week once the pel power power was discovered. Best way to spot a newbie was if he built vehicle, lol he hasnīt played watermaps!
Next step came when Gnugs released their best kept secrets and showed everyone how to bomb. Bombing and air duels was the new strat and every team nedded an airborn player (shared energy came later though, and you were still in kindergarteen). Then SY shows the power of the BB and the final strat for GoW around 99 is created. FFs, bomb and then everyone goes BB. Best way to spot a newbie was if he built sea, lol pelicans own ships!
Then nothing happend, and nothing... until some adjustments were made. Shared energy, building more then 10 tidals, and the safety in vehicle. BB was no longer a winning strat with double guarded air labs. (By this time, most of you had bought the game)
So there it was, GoW was finished in terms of unit choices. Veh or air to start with, pels and crusaders later. Anyone building something else is easily spoted as a newbie.
It could have stayed that way. But... after 2 years of basically no new strategy ideas at all, something has happened. Recently BF introduced an old forgotten friend, the Hulk, and now this.
Natas goes sea first (que?) while Canuck aims for fast Hovercraft (say what?). Itīs not a foolproof strat, not a new school that will create a strategy revolution or anything. But itīs a sign that perhaps this game, and this map, still has room for evolution and variation.
I sure hope so. |
