It's time for a history lesson in TA.
1999 was the year of Soulrain. For those of you who never played him, I guess you could say he was like an early version of BF. Confident, arrogant ... and really good at TA. Everyone wanted to beat him, yet very few could.
In this PD game, you can see pretty well how Soulrain changed the way TA was played at the time.
In 1999, SYs and Gnugs dominated big land maps with samson armies and advanced building. The games were kinda slow and focused more on expansion and building then attacking. Soulrain developed a new strategy that was more agressive. He built just one or two cons, gathered about 20-30 flashes as quick as possible, enough to kill a Commander. Then he attacked.
Might not sound very spectacular today, but it was the shit back then. The big builders had no way of stopping that early attack. Also the use of EMG instead of Samsons, pissing people of further since most people were on crappy modems. I guess we can blame Soulrain for the "no EMG" games of today.
In the brag game of brag games year 1999, Soulrain killed two Gnugs in a 2v1 on Painted Desert, using this strategy.
